Trailer lights live a hard life — they get dunked in water, often while still hot from the drive to the ramp. That thermal shock is what cracks lenses and kills incandescent bulbs, and it is the main reason submersible LED units have taken over. Sealed LEDs handle the dunk without the filament shock and draw far less current.

Most lighting faults are not the lights themselves. Corroded grounds and connectors cause the large majority of trailer light problems, and a bad ground is the classic reason turn signals cross over or brake lights come on dim. Check and clean the ground connection at the frame before replacing anything, and use dielectric grease on every connector when you reassemble.
