Collection: Starter Drives

Starter drives, bendix assemblies, and starter drive components for Sea-Doo, Yamaha, and Kawasaki PWC.

The starter drive is the mechanism that engages the starter gear with the flywheel and then releases it once the engine fires. When it wears or sticks, you get a grinding noise on start, a starter that spins without turning the engine, or a drive that stays engaged after startup.

Do not confuse this with a weak battery. A drive that spins freely without engaging is mechanical; slow cranking that improves on a charge is electrical. Check battery voltage and connections first — it is free, and it rules out the most common cause before you order parts. Inspect the flywheel ring gear whenever you replace a drive, because damaged teeth will destroy a new one quickly.
