Carrying a spare is not optional on a boat trailer. Trailer tires fail more often than vehicle tires — they carry higher relative loads, sit for long periods developing flat spots and sidewall cracks, and frequently run underinflated because nobody checks them. A blowout with a ski on the trailer and no spare is a long, expensive wait.
Mount the carrier where the spare stays clear of the ramp and out of the road spray, and check spare pressure at the same time you check the others. A spare that has sat flat for two seasons is not a spare. Also confirm you are carrying a lug wrench and a jack that actually fits the trailer — a car jack often will not.
