Marine bearings fail for one dominant reason: water. Any bearing that has seen water intrusion is on borrowed time even if it still spins freely on the bench, because the corrosion is already happening on the races. If a ski has been submerged or has had a persistent seal leak, replace the bearings rather than reusing them — the parts cost is trivial against a second teardown.

Replace bearings as a set when doing a bottom end, and always install fresh seals alongside them. A new bearing behind a tired seal fails the same way the old one did.
